Ms. Brubaker, 4th Grade Teacher
My name is Annette Brubaker and I teach fourth grade at the Bishop School. I live in Arlington, Massachusetts although I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. I earned my Masterís Degree in Education and Creative Arts in Learning from Lesley University in Cambridge.
I love teaching fourth grade because the students are just at that wonderful age where they can discuss more complex topics and are beginning to understand abstract ideas. I enjoy connecting to each student and learning to know what their interests are. Itís exciting to help students gain confidence and experience growth, both academically and emotionally. My favorite moments are when we share humor as a group, when I see the class really engaged in an activity or conversation, or I notice individual studentsí self-esteem improve as they begin to grasp a challenging idea.
I live with my two children (both teenagers, who attend the Arlington Public Schools) and our parakeets and fish. There are often friends over visiting Ė I like that our home is a welcoming place to my kidsí friends. I enjoy biking, tennis, and modern dance. I also enjoy art and music. I love a good book or movie, too (with popcorn, of course!)
I can be reached by sending an old-fashioned note, an email, or by telephone (781-316-3795 ext. 2750.) It is an honor to be entrusted with the challenging and rewarding job of educating these young children.
