We have begun a fundraising program at “Not Your Average Joe’s”. Here is the Not Your Average Joe's Certificates which can be presented on Tuesdays in June (by any diners) to get 15% of their food-portion of their bill sent to OMS/OPAC.
Note that it is necessary to present a paper copy of the certificate for OMS to get the gift. To make this a bit easier, NYAJs allowed us to shrink their certificate down to the cut-out card (click here to download). Folks can put the smaller certificate in their wallets or purses. We hope you can take advantage of this great discount offer from “Not Your Average Joe’s” and support OMS at the same time! Cindy Wells and Jo Anne PrestonCo-Presidents of OPAC
Important info on donating to 8th Grade Recognition
Good Morning 8th Grade Parents,
Since sending out the previous notice, I have received many emails containing questions about how to give to the 8th Grade Fund if you can’t find your letter, etc. So, I am going to try to answer these questions here, as responding individually is challenging with such a large graduating class.
If you would like to send a check, please make it out to “OPAC” with “8th Grade Graduation” on the subject line, and put it in an envelope labeled “OPAC, 8th Grade”. Your child can bring this to the office and give it to Pam Byrne, secretary, and it will get to us at OPAC. You do not need the yellow letter. We requested $20-$30 per family, but we left a write-in line for other amounts also. And we do accept cash.
Also, I cannot “count you in” for an amount, until it has actually arrived. It’s too difficult to keep track of this. And, if you’re not sure if you have already given to the 8th Grade Fund, you can email Carol Chicarello, our Treasurer, at carolchic19@comcast.net and she can let you know. (It may take her a day or two to get back to you, as she has a full time job.)
I want you to know that the money must be collected early so we can establish our budget. Please understand that in order to use your contribution, we must receive it now….not in June. We need to establish the Budgets for each Committee involved in the Graduation. Without an established budget for each committee, we can’t decide what to purchase and we cannot begin to order everything we need. For example, we need to pre-order/”book”/send to print… the following….
1. Invitations
2. Decorations for the Ceremony and the Dance, (including flowers, stars, balloons, wall hangings)
3. Programs for the night of the event
4. Graduation Certificates (and envelopes) in each student’s name
5. Dinner, Desserts, Drinks for Students (we would like to cater the “finger foods”-type dinner but, again, it depends on the budget. Otherwise, we will ask for food donations from you.)
6. Paper Goods
7. Class Gift to OMS
8. Favors for the students
9. DJ for the “student dance” portion of the evening
And more! So, please make every effort to turn in your contribution by *Friday, May 4th*.
It is a great undertaking to plan a party for 345 students, so I would like to extend a special thank you in advance, to my fellow parents who signed up on the Sign Up Genius, for their volunteer efforts! *Thank You!*
And I would like to thank all of you, again, who have already contributed to your child’s graduation event! The donations are still coming in daily! We have increased from 75 donating families to over 120 in one day! So, thank you!
If you have any questions that I have not answered, please email me at Cinderella7@comcast.net and I will be happy to respond, as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Cindy Wells (Carol Chicarello, Rosemary Koch)8th Grade Recognition Night Coordinators

Japan Trip Summer 2012
Dear Ottoson Parents/Guardians,
I am emailing you to let you know about an exciting opportunity for students at OMS to travel internationally this summer. This summer, students from AHS and OMS will have the opportunity to travel to our sister city of Nagaokakyo, Japan with Arlington teachers serving as chaperons. While in Japan, the students will stay with Japanese host families and travel to Japanese schools. Furthermore, the students will travel throughout the area and visit many cultural sites. This is a truly excellent opportunity to not only visit another country, but also to experience another culture. Many vacations offer the opportunity to travel to tourist destinations in another country, this is a chance for your student to experience Japan beyond just the tourist attractions and to really experience another culture. The students will leave on July 5th and return on July 15th. The price of the trip is around $2,200, which covers absolutely every part of trip (the plane ticket, food, entrance to all activities, and lodging with a Japanese host family). The only thing they need money for is souvenirs! If you are considering a summer camp, you may want to consider the chance to send your son/daughter on a trip to Asia, which is sure to be something he/she will never forget. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to call, or email. -- Christopher Mahoney
