What is 'Wish List'?Almost every teacher has a wish for something extra that he or she would like to get to make his or her teaching better or easier. Our Wish List program provides a few of those extra things. It is funded by OPAC on behalf of Ottoson parents and guardians, and is meant to be a practical symbol of parents' appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of Ottoson teachers. What are typical Wish List items?Examples of recently fulfilled Wish List items are: books for reading projects, balance scales for science classes, ceramic tiles and glazes for art program, and pencil sharpeners. Where the money comes from? The Wish List program is funded by OPAC through parental contributions, as well as direct donations to the program. If you have not yet donated to OPAC, please do so. For more information, please refer to the next section. How can I donate? Please support OPAC with generous donations. It is an organization that has a very important role, and needs support by all Ottoson parents and guardians. If you wish to earmark your donation specifically towards the Wish List, please write "for Wish List" in the memo line of your check. Please write the check to OPAC and send it to OPAC, Ottoson Middle School, 63 Acton St., Arlington, MA 02476. Also, please note that OPAC is a 501c3 Charitable Organization, so your contribution is fully tax deductible. Can I give specific items?Besides donating money, you can also give specific items or gift certificates. If you know of a teacher or a cluster that has a specific wish you would like to fulfill, simply let the Wish List Committee know of your intention, and either drop off the item at the school, or let one of the committee members pick it up at your home. Of course, undesignated gifts are also welcomed; we will find a deserving teacher for each. To reach a representative of the Wish List Committee, please go to OPAC Contact Information. If you would like to do this, but don't know what to give, please consult the More Wish List Ideas section below. How are wish requests submitted and selected?Teachers submit Wish List requests either to the Wish List Committee directly, or to the principal. At the beginning of the school year, The Wish List Committee together with the principal selects the wish items it can fulfill, based on its budget. The selected with items are then procured and distributed. How are funds accounted? The Wish List Committee chairperson submits the list of expenditures with receipts to OPAC treasurer. In turn, OPAC treasurer submits a financial report at each regular monthly meeting, and the report is included in the minutes of the meeting. Contact informationIf you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns, or if you would like to become involved with the Wish List Committee, please go to OPAC Contact Information.
