Ms. Viveiros, 2nd Grade Teacher
Hello and welcome to the Bishop community! My name is Justine Viveiros and I teach second grade. I have been a Bishop Bear since 2005 teaching fourth, as well as first grades during my time here. Before joining the Bishop faculty I taught third grade for two years at St. Benedict's in Somerville. I was fortunate enough to complete my student teaching in the Fall of 2001 with Jeanne Wall, right here at Bishop! I graduated from Lesley with my Bachelors in Elementary Education and received my Masters in Reading from Salem State.
Second grade is an exciting year because we spend much time using the skills we have learned in previous years to dive deeper into our lessons.
We begin by revisiting the strategies students have learned in first grade and then move beyond learning to read towards reading to learn. By the time they leave in the spring, students are reading books that are much more challenging and are able to use a multitude of strategies to assist them. I believe learning should be an adventure and try to infuse as much fun into each lesson as I can. I also feel that students learn more when they make connections to the outside world or other pieces of the curriculum. In second grade, many times those connections need to be directly revealed, which I try to do. My favorite part about teaching is the fresh start each fall! Many of the routines are the same, but each year is totally different and full of surprises!
When I am not in school, I am very busy having fun with my husband and our three young children. I enjoy going out to eat and visiting new places with my family. I feel very fortunate and blessed to be able to share my week between Bishop and my family.
The best methods of contacting me are via email or with a note delivered by your child. Please be aware that voice mails do not always register on the phone and you should contact me again if you do not hear from me by the end of the school day. Any dismissals must go through the office.
Thanks for taking the time to learn about me. I hope you enjoy your experience at Bishop School!
