Dallin Food Policy

In order both to keep our students safe and to model healthy eating habits, we ask that all members of the Dallin community observe the following food guidelines for all classroom and school celebrations:

student artFOR ALL SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS (INCLUDING CLASS PARTIES, BIRTHDAY AND HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS, ETC.), ALL FOOD IN SCHOOL WILL BE LIMITED TO FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. These food guidelines DO NOT apply to daily snacks and lunches sent to school by parents. They also do not apply to curriculum events and after school events with parents in attendance.

Below are some suggested fruits and vegetables in different forms and some recommended brands: *

  • Fresh fruit (washed, chopped and prepped)
    • Apples
    • Oranges, tangerines, clementines
    • Strawberries, berries
    • Grapes
    • Cherries
    • Cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon
    • Bananas
    • Pineapple
    • Peaches, nectarines
    • Pears
    • Mango slices
  • Raisins, Craisins
  • Fresh vegetables: NO DIPS
    • Carrots
    • Celery
    • Cherry tomatoes
    • Cucumber
    • Snap or snow peas
    • Red or green pepper strips
    • Cauliflower
    • Broccoli
  • Pickles
  • Applesauce: Mott’s Natural Style or Healthy Harvest, Musselman’s Lite, Trader Joe’s
  • Fruit Cups/Bowls: Dole, Del Monte
  • Fruit leather (Natural Value, Stretch Island, Trader Joe’s)
  • Minute Maid Soft Frozen Lemonade
  • Luigi’s Italian Ice (lemon and watermelon flavors)
  • JELL-O Gelatin Snacks (fruit flavors, not pudding)
  • PhillySwirl products
  • Welch’s Fruit Bars
  • Water

*Please note that this school-wide list will be amended and/or annotated by the teachers and school nurse for a particular classroom or grade level, based on specific food allergens unique to that class or grade of students. Some grades may choose to limit the choices to fewer food items.

If you want to bring your favorite fruit or vegetable treat and it is not on this list, your request must be approved by the classroom teacher, who will consult with the school nurse. This request must be made at least 48 hours before the celebration. Only fruit- or vegetable-based foods will be considered. Food that is not on the approved classroom list and isn’t scheduled ahead of time with the teacher will be sent home.
