Body Mass Index (BMI):
In children and teens, body mass index is used to assess underweight, overweight and risk for being overweight. Children's body fatness changes over the years as they grow. Also, girls and boys differ in their body fatness as they mature. This is why BMI for children, also referred to as BMI-for-age, is gender and age specific. One (1), two (2) BMI-for-age is plotted on gender specific growth charts. These charts are used for children and teens two (2) to twenty (20) years of age. For the 2000 CDC Growth Charts and additional information, visit CDC's National Center for Health Statistics. top

Flexibility:
The ability to move muscles and joints through their full range of motion.
top

Muscular Endurance:
The ability of muscles to sustain repeated productions of force at low to moderate intensities over extended intervals of time.
top

Muscular Strength:
The ability of muscles to produce force at high intensities over short periods of time.
top

Physical Fitness:
A state of well-being that allows a person to perform daily activities with vigor, reduces the risk of health problems relating to lack of exercise, and is a sufficient fitness base to provide energy for daily participation in recreational physical activities and for handling emergencies.
