Guidance

School guidance counselors provide a nurturing environment that supports the growth of students into socially responsible, independent, and resilient community participants. Counselors prepare lifelong learners for the world by helping to promote intellectual curiosity, develop cultural proficiency, and cultivate healthy relationships. Counselors collaborate with students, parents, faculty, as well as the community to advance social emotional skills and foster mental and physical well being of the whole student.

School counselors meet with students one to one and in small groups to assist them with academic and social emotional needs. They collaborate on and present Advisory lessons and visit Advisories and classrooms in order to be active members of learning communities. School counselors work with students in crisis, as well as in working with students toward achieving short and long term goals, and they facilitate communication among students, families, teachers and staff, and other collaterals, such as outside therapists. School counselors also assist families in obtaining outside therapeutic and community resource services. School counselors provide guidance and assistance to faculty as the social emotional experts in the building.
