Principal's Welcome

Kristin DeFrancisco, Principal

Welcome to the Gibbs School! I am Kristin DeFrancisco and I have been working in the Arlington Public Schools for twenty years. I began as a 6th grade teacher at the Dallin School when the sixth grade was nested at the top of the elementary school grades. I moved with the sixth grade to the Ottoson Middle School where I taught both English Language Arts and Science classes. Following some time home with my two girls, I joined the Hardy School Faculty. I became a third grade teacher, then a fifth grade teacher and then its principal where I remained for five years. It has been an honor to grow my role here in Arlington and the Gibbs School is a great project for me as a leader and for Arlington as a town. The philosophy at Gibbs is that when students are socially and emotionally supported and when the adults who work with sixth graders view their work through a developmentally appropriate transitional lens, then we give all sixth graders the opportunity to learn the skills to be successful in the next phase of their education.

When you visit us at Gibbs you will see that the building suggests and encourages learning in all spaces. You will often find the students working to fill display cases with final art projects, break spaces in hallways filled with advisory groups that are learning important reflection skills and growth mindset attitudes, project based learning opportunities that teach students how to plan, navigate, research and create a final product for a meaningful topic and so much more. You will see a community that is UNDERSTANDING of one anotherís needs, UNIFIED in its mission, and UNSTOPPABLE when it comes to thinking outside the box.
