Book Group Information
 
Happy New Year Everyone! Just a Reminder that the Girls' Lunchtime Book Group has its first meeting of this year in the Media Center/Library during 5th Period this Wednesday, January 7th. The book we asked girls to read is A Step From Heaven by An Na, some copies of which are available in the Ottoson Media Center and it is a relatively short book and fast read. FOR THIS MONTH ONLY, girls should come to the book group even if they haven't completed reading the book, if they are interested in and serious about being part of the book group. If possible, they should get a copy of the book and at least skim it/read part of it before the group. They should also think about what they would like to get out of the book group this year, what types of books they would like to read, what types of projects or activiites they might like to do in addition to reading and discussing books, and other topics of this type.

This year book group is running slightly differently in the past. Students are asked to BRING a LUNCH on the day of bookgroup, and my co-leader and I will provide some fruit and dessert or something of that sort as well as drinks for the book group participants. Students are also asked to obtain their own copies of books that we choose to read unless that poses a financial hardship, in which case a few copies will be obtained by the co-leaders of the group and made available through them or through the Media Center staff. Students are requested to please let their fifth period teacher know that they are planning to attend bookgroup ahead of time, and if there is a problem with getting permission to have their parent email me ahead of time to seek resolution. All students will be expected to be responsible for work they miss during fifth period but will be excused for missing the class. Teachers will be able to verify with the OMS Main O! ffice whether or not a student was participating in the book group during a given period.

I am really hoping for a good turn out of girls who like to read and like to talk about books -- we had a great time last year in book group and I am looking forward to seeing last year's girls again and hopefully a bunch of new faces too.
