Foods and Hospitality

CHEFS, HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM

Course Description: In this course, students explore the wide range of career and business opportunities available in this billion dollar industry through a variety of hands-on activities, discussions, field trips, guest speakers, readings, and research projects. Learn what professionals do in these fields by preparing foods, "arranging trips", planning functions, and comparing features of the hospitality and tourism industry. Find out what this industry can offer as you consider your future career options.

Curriculum is based on standards from the Massachusetts VTE (Vocational Technical Education)

Essential Questions

  • How and why are health and safety practices essential to the success of hospitality and food industries?
  • How and why is a strong knowledge of technical skills and food preparation methods important to the operations of the hospitality industry?
  • How do communication, math, and presentation skills factor into a successful hospitality industry?
  • What are the qualities of a successful employee, employer, or business?
  • How does technology contribute to the success of a business?
  • How do my interests, talents, skills, and goals match up to the various career options in the food and hospitality industry?
