KINDERGARTEN - GRADE 5 REGISTRATION

Kindergarten - Grade 5 registration for 2025-2026 school year is now open.

To be eligible for Kindergarten registration, your student must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2025 of the enrolling school year.

Future kindergarten - Grade 5 registration for 2026-2027 school year is not yet open.

If you are interested in registration for 2026-2027 school year, you may sign up here to receive a notification once registration opens.

Students in grades K-12 already attending the Arlington Public Schools DO NOT need to re-register.

The Importance of Registering

Registering your student allows Arlington Public Schools to plan ahead and support all students effectively.

When families complete registration:

We can better prepare for class sizes and staffing.
Resources can be allocated appropriately.
Students can be placed in schools with accurate and timely planning.

If You Live in a Buffer Zone

Even if your school is not yet confirmed, completing registration ensures your student is considered for placement as early as possible.

If You Are Not In a Buffer Zone

Registering early helps us anticipate enrollment numbers and organize classrooms efficiently—even when the school is already assigned.

What should I do if I’m unsure about my child attending APS?

If you are considering considering other options (private school, another preschool year, etc.) but think your student might attend APS, we still encourage you to register. You can always withdraw your student later if needed.

Kindergarten - Grade 5 Registration Process

Step 1: Verify Residency and Eligibility

To enroll in Arlington Public Schools, students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) must reside in the Town of Arlington.

For Kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before August 31 of the enrolling school year.

For Grade 1, students must be 6 years old on or before August 31 of the enrolling school year.

Step 2: Gathering required documents

The registration process is online. Parent(s)/guardian(s) must upload all required documents for each new student enrolling in Arlington Public Schools through the PowerSchool Registration Portal. It is recommended to gather the necessary documents before beginning the online registration process.

We ask that all documents be fully translated into English. Translations should be completed by a professional translator before submitting the online registration.

Proof of Age

Proof of Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Identity

Proof of Residency - provide one of the following

Proof of Occupancy- provide one of the following documents dated within 60 days

Utility Bill (electric, oil, gas, solar statement) or Confirmation of Service Notice/ Service Agreement/ New Customer Letter (for those who recently moved and have not yet received a bill)

Bank Statements, phone bills, internet bills, excise tax or income tax documents are NOT accepted as Proof of Residence or Occupancy

If utility costs are included in the rent, please provide a notarized letter from the homeowner.

Student Physical Exam Record

Must be within the past 12 months

Physical Exam Record must include physician documentation of vision screening including stereopsis (depth perception) & lead screening results.

If your student had a lead screening before, the pediatrician should still have the results on file. The Massachusetts School Health Record form should be completed based on those existing results. There is no requirement for the lead screening to be within the past 12 months unless otherwise indicated by your pediatrician.

However, in Massachusetts, if you currently live or have previously lived in a high-risk lead area, your student may be required to undergo another lead screening. We recommend checking the Massachusetts Department of Public Health website to determine whether any of your previous or current addresses fall under this category.

Step3: Access the PowerSchool Registration Portal to Begin Registration

New Family:

If you are new to Arlington Public Schools, you will need to create an account on the PowerSchool Registration Portal (select "Create Account" to begin) to access the online registration forms. The account you create will be used throughout your student’s time at Arlington Public Schools.

Existing Families:

If you already have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please sign in using your existing username and password to complete the registration for your new student.

*We recommend using a computer or tablet for the online registration process, as mobile devices may present challenges.

The online registration process allows parents/guardians to save their application and complete it later. Additionally, any required fields left incomplete will prevent progress in the registration process. Your application is not complete until ALL documents have been submitted..

Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation notification from the PowerSchool Enrollment Portal.

Step 4: Receive Student’s Registration Approval Letter (Welcome Letter)

Once a student’s registration is fully submitted, the registration staff will review the application. After approval, you will receive a confirmation email. For families in a Buffer Zone, a notification will be sent regarding the assigned school.

Step 5: Orientation & Screening

For Kindergarten students:

Kindergarten orientation and screening for all families will be held at all elementary schools from late May through June.

Families enrolling mid-year should follow the schedule and instructions provided by their assigned school.

For Grade 1 - 5 students:

School tour schedules vary by school. Please follow the communication provided directly by your assigned school.
