Green Teams & Student-led Environmental Initiatives
Arlington Green Teams at our elementary and middle schools empower and support students who want to take action to protect and preserve our natural environment.
Green Teams help organize the annual Pumpkin Rescue event in the fall and the Textile Recycling Competition in the spring. They engage and inspire their school communities by organizing litter cleanups and fundraisers to support environmental causes, planting pollinator gardens, helping to make school events low waste, and bringing in special guests with expertise in environmental fields.
The Arlington Green Teams receive resources and annual recognition from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Team program.

Arlington has several high school student-led sustainability initiatives including the SAVE Club and Project Zero. Arlington High School students organize an annual EcoFair in the spring featuring food and frozen treats, book and clothing swaps, flower crowns and face painting, lawn games, live music from student bands, and activities run by student leaders of environmental initiatives.
EarthCore is an environmental youth leadership program for middle and high school age students co-led by the Sustainability Project Manager since 2018. EarthCore provides an opportunity for students who participate in Green Teams during the school year and for any student who has an interest in environmental protection to learn about and engage in local sustainability initiatives during the summer.
