Prevent Further Spreading of Illness
Dear Parents/Guardians:
It is that time of year when our children and family members are getting sick. There are many illnesses present in the community including Flu and Group A Strep. The best ways to prevent further spreading of illness is to stay home when sick and hand washing.

The following guidelines from Arlington Public Schools should be followed in order to allow your student to recover in a timely manner as well as for the protection of other students and our staff.

Your child should remain at home if he/she has:
- Uncontrollable and/or productive cough
- Fever over 100.4 degrees within past 24 hours (fever free without medication)
- Vomiting or diarrhea within past 24 hours
- Sore throat and swollen glands
- Undiagnosed, suspicious rash or skin eruptions
- Earache, severe headache or drainage from eyes
- Students should remain home for 24 hours after an acute illness or after starting antibiotics for a diagnosed infection

In the event that your child has a diagnosed infection (e.g., Strep, Flu, Pink Eye, Norovirus), please let the School Nurse know. This information is very helpful for us in identifying trends and illness patterns as well as keeping our students safe.

Thank you very much for your assistance with this. Please feel free to contact me regarding any concerns that you might have. I can be reached at (781)316-3797 or by email at kamartin@arlington.k12.ma.us.

PTO NEWS
The Bishop School's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a group of parents, teachers and community members that plans events throughout the year to both raise funds and support the Bishop School community. Last year, the PTO raised over $55,000 which funded school-wide enrichment programs, Bishop classrooms, teachers and administration, school improvement projects, and other community initiatives. We welcome anyone to join us, at our next meeting or by getting involved in any way you can.

Attention 5th Grade Families
Fifth grade families, we're asking for your help this month to help keep the Arlington Food Pantry shelves stocked. If you are able, please consider sending a food donation for our fellow community members. Donations of non-perishable food can be dropped in bins in the 5th grade hallway, as well as in the front hallway.
Gift cards to local markets in denominations of $10 or $20 can be given to Ms. Gonsalves in the Bishop main office. Monetary donations are also accepted. The Arlington Food Pantry is run entirely by volunteers so the money goes directly to buying food.

Checks should be made payable to The Arlington Food Pantry and can be left in the main office or mailed directly to:
The Arlington Food Pantry
Department of Health and Human Services
27 Maple Street
Arlington, MA 02476

We'll be collecting from now until the morning of Friday, January 26th.
Food pantries are a vital resource for many members of our community. Located at 117 Broadway, Arlington residents are welcome to shop and/or volunteer. See this link for details. www.arlingtonfoodpantry.org

    No Child Left Behind

The federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires states and school districts to produce and disseminate annual report cards.

These report cards include information on student assessment, accountability, andteacher quality; the report cards may also include other information. They also provide parents and other members of the public a snapshot of student performance and teacher qualifications in their local schools.
