Student Work Permits
Arlington, Massachusetts work permits are NOT handled by the Superintendent's Office. All work permits are processed through Arlington High School.
Students may apply for a work permit beginning at age 14.
Before Applying
Students must:
- Have a job offer
- Know the name and address of the employer
- Know the type of work they will be doing
- Have a valid form of identification (birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, or immigration record)
How To Apply
- Download and complete the Massachusetts Work Permit Application.
- (Non-APS students only) Complete the School Record Form
- Collect all required signatures. The application must include:
- Student signature
- Parent/guardian signature
- Physician signature for students under age 16
- Email a clear copy or scan of pages 1 and 2 of the completed application to:

- Current grade
- Current home address
- Students are required to provide a valid form of identification (birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, or immigration record)
- After the application is reviewed, students will be emailed instructions on how to obtain their work permit.
What Happens Next
Students will receive a confirmation email once their application is received, outlining any missing items or additional steps. Permits are handled through the Arlington High School Counseling Office and typically processed within 2–3 school days. Processing may take longer during busy periods and in the summer when staffing locations and schedules may vary.
Once approved, students should provide the completed permit to their employer before starting work.
