On behalf of the History and Social Studies Department at APS, we hope this newsletter finds you all healthy and well. We have a few exciting updates to share with you this month!

METCO Students Join Friends and Make New Ones at SummerFun!

A special program that included transportation, meals, and on-site support was initiated this summer, enabling APS Boston-based students to attend Arlington Community Education’s “SummerFun!” program.

Summer English Language Learner (SELL) Program Previews and Promotes Language Learning in Fun, No-Risk Environment

Free to all newcomer English Language Learners entering grades one through five, SELL uses hands-on activities that enable students to learn language and content while making friends and gaining an understanding of what school is like in the US.

On behalf of the entire History & Social Studies Department, we want to say how wonderful it has been to see students back in classrooms this month! We are excitedly focusing on helping students build a sense of community with their peers, tackle interesting topics in history and social studies, and flex their critical thinking skills.

1K Visit AHS Performing Arts and STEAM Wings - Phase 2 construction underway until fall 2023.

The Town of Arlington is pleased to report that an estimated 1,000 people toured the new high school’s Performing Arts and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) wings before Town Day got into full swing on September 17th.
